How do I get rid of the bottle?
I know there’s no “right or wrong” age to wean from the bottle—however, my pediatrician says it’s time for my 21 month old to give it up. Since nursery school started, he’s become obsessed with the bottle. He wants it 24/7—it’s becoming his new “blanket”. How do I get rid of the bottle?

I would start by replacing it with a really cool sippy cup, and hiding them. A friend of mine had her toddler help her pack them up in a big box and said they were ‘sending them the babies’. Personally, I hold out and give them the bottle at bedtime if it becomes necessary. I realize that this will drawal criticism, but honestly, sometimes you have do what you have to do. Start with the cup, and go from there. Let us know how you do!

the power struggle with the bottle only exists if you make it so. tell him the bottle is only available once a day now but, HE gets to CHOOSE his new cup. sometimes the soft nippled sippy cups are the best transitional choice- so be ready with a few options and of course the receipt to return the unchosen ones.

Babies are only little for such a short time. What could be the harm in letting him keep the security and pleasure he derives from his bottle a little while longer. Not in bed of course. And definitely have him brush his teeth before bed.

Cold turkey. It worked like a charm with my son at 13 months.
Good luck.
